The
Deepkala Journey
- bagan in 1942, in Ahmedabad (the commrecial capital of Gujarat
province in India). The Journey started by Late Deepak Shah,
founder of Deepkala Group, who lugged tons of Khadi cloth from
door to door on bicycle. To handle the growing demand Deepak
Shah esteblished 200 sq. ft. store named "Deepak
Store", in 1956. By 1972, Deepak
Stores moved to a larger area of 500 sq. ft. and came into its
new avatar as "Deepkala Ratanpole".
By 1977, adjoining shops were acquired, taking its
size to 2000 sq. ft., spread over four floors; the biggest saree
showroom in Ratanpole area of the city, even today.
Just
as the city limits of Ahmedabad seem to know no bounds, neither
does Deepkala. As the city grew the Deepkala Group
also expanded its wings by opening up new outlet around the
city.
"Deepkala
Junction"-the ultimate retail outlet for
dress material, sarees, dresses and accessories-was born on
September 30 2003, at the junction of Satellite
Road and 132 ft. Ring Road in Satellite area of Ahmedabad.
Mr.
Pradip Shah, founder of "Deepkala
Junction" adopted a revolutionary approach,
by introducing a pioneering concept. While the trend so far
had been to focus on commercial areas for a commercial establishment,
he opted for residential area. This was in keeping with the
Deepkala tradition: "Go to where your customer are,
do drag them to where you are."
